The Northern Illinois University SAE Baja Racing Team was formed in 1997 and has recently been revitalised due to a surge of excited and hard-working students joining its ranks.
SAE Mini Baja is an international competition for University students in which they build, maintain, and race off-road vehicles through various tests and challenges. Including driving the car; students must keep track of the parts that they buy, manage sponsorships, and present their vehicle through hypothetical sales presentations.
The NB-16 in particular features a custom-made drivetrain, giving our car a speed boost while being more durable than previous iterations.
We are located within the north side of the Engineering building, There is almost always somebody there, so feel free to stop by!

Tennessee Tech 2016
NIU Baja Racing enjoyed a wonderful return to competition with the Tennesee Tech event in April. Nine of some of our most commited team members showed up to the 3-day event. We had our ups and downs, but we ended the competition 43rd overall out of 96 Teams from all across the United States, Canada, India, and Egypt!
